According to CTL’s racing secretary Denzil Miller Jr, the other major races on the 12-race programme should be closely contested. These include the annual renewal of the Glen Mills Caribbean Sprint over 1200 metres in honour of Jamaica’s own celebrated track and field coach Glen Mills, himself a horse racing enthusiast. “This offers a total purse of $1.75 million, inclusive of $400,000 from Burger. The field should include last year’s winner, Potcheen, Crucial Appeal, Traditional Prince, Poker Star, Edison, Talented Tony K, and the improving three-year-old colt Buzz Nightmare,” Miller said. He added: “The day’s showpiece event, Superstakes 37, should be an intriguing contest, with reigning ‘Horse of the Year’ Typewriter seeking his third consecutive win for trainer Spencer Chung. A stiff challenge is expected from the 2013 derby and St Leger winner and likely favourite Perfect Neighbour, and the latter could give 14-time champion trainer Wayne DaCosta his first Superstakes win.” Also speaking were CTL’s chairman, Christopher Brown, who thanked noted racehorse owner and breeder Lake for the partnership with CTL, and Sabrena McDonald Radcliffe, marketing manager of Burger King, who disclosed that provision had been made to award $100,000 each to the top trainer, jockey, and groom on the day based on points accumulated in the 12 races. The 37th running of the rich and prestigious Superstakes for native-bred three-year-olds and up over 2000 metres will be run at Caymanas Park on Saturday, November 14, with Burger King assuming the role of sponsor, with a purse of $4.5 million. According to Burger King’s CEO, Richard Lake, the fast-food entity has committed itself to a three-year sponsorship deal for not only the Superstakes, but the other major races on ‘Superday’ – the 28th running of the Glen Mills Caribbean Sprint Championship for native bred three-year-olds, the ninth running of the Coca Cola Invitational Mile, and the second running of the Coca Cola Juvenile Sprint for native-bred two-year-olds over 1300 metres. Details of Burger King Superstakes Day, dubbed ‘A Day with the King and his Horses’, were outlined at Thursday’s launch at the Knutsford Court Hotel, New Kingston, by representatives of Burger and Caymanas Track Limited (CTL). MURDER SUSPECT WAS ‘ON THE RUN FROM PRISON’

first_imgBeautiful Jennifer Dornan was stabbed to death in her home in the North last weekend.A suspect in the murder of mother of three who was arrested in Co Donegal was on the run from prison, it has been reported.The man, wanted in connection with the death of west Belfast woman Jennifer Dornan had failed to return to Dublin’s Mountjoy prison after a temporary release.Ms Dornan died nine days ago. She had been stabbed before her home, in the Lagmore estate was set on fire.
