Inmates graduate from Anger Management Program

first_img Related Items: Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppProvidenciales, TCI, October 20, 2016 – On October 12 2016 a graduation ceremony was held at Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP), for eight (8) inmates that completed the most recent Anger Management Program.   The anger management program which began in 2007 has seen over 137 inmates graduated to date.  Each year, two cycles are conducted to train inmates in how to resolve conflicts and control their anger.The program is facilitated by Mr. Stanley Been, Substance Abuse Counselor within the Department of Mental Health and Substance Dependence.  In his address to the graduates, Mr. Been encouraged them to lose sight of their past afflictions and focus on their future, using the negativity they once bottled inside as fuel for something positive.Further remarks were received from the Hon. George Lightbourne, Minister of Home Affairs, Transportation and Communication; Mr. Raymond Grant, Deputy Superintendent of HMP; Dr. Alicia Malcolm, Director of the Department of Mental Health & Substance Dependence and Hon. Lillian Missick.The Department of Mental Health & Substance Dependence, has been allotted future calendar dates so as to assist the prison with these support services.  This program continues to represent the collaborative work that is being done to aid in the rehabilitation of prisoners within the Turks and Caicos Islands.For further information on this program, kindly contact the Drug Prevention Foundation on 347-2424 or the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Department at: 338-3613 in Grand Turk, or 338-4737 in Providenciales. Scriptural Musical Discourse held at the Capital

The event organised by Pracheen Kala Kendra had Jugalbandi sessions held among the family members of the Vishwanath family, which comprise of some acclaimed and eminent artists. The strings of Lalitha Veena, drums, keyboard and melodic vocal recital, all together created ripples of music waves which stunned the listeners at the auditorium. The puja is performed as oblations to the Sun God mainly in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh but is known all across the country. Lord Ram belongs to the lineage of the Sun God; Suryavansh or Raghuvansh. Every deity adores the Sun God and holds this King of the Celestial Galaxy in the highest reverence. Saambh, Son of Lord Krishna, is credited for having built a dozen Sun temples to get cured of Leprosy. Vishwanath family was in tremendous form and enthralled the audience with their sheer virtuosity, deft handling of the raga, taans, and tihais. The vocal and instrumental techniques, the traditional purity, modern drum techniques etc. were on full display throughout their performance.
