Rapid COVID-19 testing machines are being deployed to Broome County

first_imgGarnar said it is complicated to know when the machines will be in use locally. He said this is because not only does he not know when the machines will physically arrive, but more importantly, he is unsure of how long it will take to find and train the people to operate them. Governor Andrew Cuomo tweeted Monday the outbreak stemmed from “a Broome County pub”. Neither he nor local health officials have identified a specific pub as the source. “Stop going out to restaurants or bars in large groups of people; just stop that right now,” he said. “Go out with one or two other people but do not go out in large groups, because that’s what we’re seeing with this particular cluster is large groups of people are going out and that’s how it’s spreading.” Garnar called upon residents to act responsibly and limit their contact with others. (WBNG) — After a huge spike in cases, state resources are coming to the Southern Tier to attempt to stop the spread of coronavirus. Broome County Executive Jason Garnar told 12 News the county will be receiving rapid testing machines, capable of producing results in 30 minutes. Garnar said the number of cases in the county has tripled recently, up to an all-time of 180 active cases as of Tuesday. He added many of the new cases are tied to a large cluster on the west side of Binghamton. The county executive said the rapid testing machines will first be used to help identify more potential cases from the cluster; eventually, they will be available to anyone in the region. All of the machines combined will be able to conduct 100 tests a day, Garnar mentioned. It will take roughly 25 people to run the machines seven days a week.last_img read more
