Watch These Movies Before SpiderMan Far From Home

first_img ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Director Explains Thanos’ Faceoff With Captain America‘Marvels’ Expands Marvel’s Podcast Universe Spider-Man TrilogyHonestly they should’ve stopped even trying to make new live-action Spider-Man movies after Sam Raimi knocked it out of the park. His original Spider-Man trilogy is a soaring, deeply emotional blend of New York heroism and carefully observed character study on the effect that heroism has on a flawed but good-natured young adult. Watching these movies may actually turn you off of the new ones, and make you wish that Spider-Man 4 comic was real.Iron ManFor better or worse, Spider-Man’s whole angle in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that he’s enamored with Tony Stark as a father figure. Whether it’s being a cool confident superhero or a tech genius, Peter wants to be like Tony. So refresh yourself on what all the fuss is about by rewatching the first Iron Man movie that made all of us want to be like Tony, and that started the MCU in the first place. The Breakfast ClubBy focusing more squarely on Peter’s teenage years, the MCU Spider-Man movies recall the classic 1980s high school films of John Hughes. And for my money the best of that whole bunch is The Breakfast Club, which Spider-Man: Homecoming directly referenced through a cast photo. Watching these archetypes work out their issues as real people over a weekend detention is still as relevant now as it was decades ago.NightcrawlerFar From Home’s marketing is playing coy about whether or not Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio is a villain like he is in the comics, but come on. No matter how it shakes out though, if you want to see Gyllenhaal as a compelling villain, watch him play the American Psycho-esque ambulance chasing freelance news videographer Louis Bloom in the delightfully sociopathic thriller Nightcrawler.Italian Spider-ManAnother Spider-Man film that’ll probably just make this one look worse, Italian Spider-Man is a hilariously specific parody of weird 60s Italian action movies as well as foreign movies from that period that grossly mistranslated American superheroes. Originally just a trailer, it eventually become a ten-episode miniseries. Spider-Man may go to Europe in Far From Home, but he’ll never be Italian Spider-Man.National Lampoon’s European VacationIf you want to watch a comedy about a European vacation that goes awry but without the web-slinging, check out National Lampoon’s European Vacation. While not a classic like the original, it’s always fun to remember Chevy Chase before he become a complete lost cause. And the directors of the recent Vacation reboot, Jonathan Michael Goldstein and John Francis Daley, also co-wrote Spider-Man: Homecoming.Spider-Man VRBefore watching Spider-Man, why not be Spider-Man is this new virtual experiences out now for free on pretty much all VR headsets just in time for the movie. It’s seems like just yesterday we were all gushing over the Academy Award-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, but now it’s time to watch another, whiter Spider-Man movie in theaters. Following up on the events of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home sees Peter Parker trying to take a vacation but still getting wrapped up in superhero antics with Nick Fury and Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio. Takes me back to my college years of starting parody Spider-Man frats.Watch these movies before Spider-Man: Far From Home.center_img Stay on targetlast_img read more
